Section Break

Post by RDave »

Greetings,

In Textmaker, I cannot figure out how to enter a Section Break, or a Column Break, without also getting a new page. I've searched this forum and the help file, and tried any number of things experimentally. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Using the classic menu, inserting a section break is easy: Insert>Break>Section Break

Let me see if I can figure it out using the ribbon menu ...

Easy: Insert tab. In the left-most panel ("Breaks"), click the small black triangle. From the drop-down menu, click "Section Break."

To set columns using the ribbon menu, once you have the section break, switch to the Layout tab. The third panel from the left is "Section." Click the small black triangle beneath the caption "Columns," and from the drop-down menu select the number of columns you want.

To set columns using the classic menu: Format>Section>Columns

NB: To avoid unwanted page breaks, make sure that "Page break" in the Section > Columns dialog is unchecked and "Height" is set to "Auto" or "Fixed height". If "Page height" is selected, there will always be a page break because each section consists of whole pages.

Thanks for the input; I have tried the page break unchecked and the height set to auto, I'm still getting a page break. I must have some sequence wrong. I'll keep experimenting. -Dave

Have you activated "Show paragraph marks"? [The backwards 'P' symbol in the menu.] I almost always work with that turned on, so that I can see what's happening in my document in real time.
