Link pasted from Devonthink not working

Post by enonod »

I select a paragraph in an open pdf in Devonthink and select copy 'selection link'.
In Textmaker I Format Link and create the link and associated text.
When attempting to to follow the link with cmd key held it opens Safari and attempt to open a page entitled as the link text.
Ctrl and Opt keys held do not do anything

I do exactly the same in Libra Office and the link opens the original pdf in Devonthink with a highlight displayed on the original paragraph as it should.
The process also works in Scrivener.

Any clues please?

What is t he URL/Path that DEVONthink gives you? Does it starts with file:///?

Please notice that linking text documents to files located in a DEVONthink database is an awful idea for several reasons:
1. DEVONthink databases use a proprietary format, meaning: you need DEVONthink to open the database, unless you know exactly what you are looking for in the unindexed folders inside an uncompressed db.
2. It defeats the whole concept behind DEVONthink. DEVONthink's AI features are meant to do all this associations for you between files, not the other way around.
3. The way you are doing it requires a fixed path, meaning that if the file (the one you are working on TM and the DEVONthink db) are accessed in a different machine with slightly different paths (like, for instance, a different user) this links wont work at all.

I see your point igsi, about opening Devonthink, for which I am a novice.
I have learned a lot more about Devonthink since and realise it is more powerful than I thought.
The aim now is that all the documents are in Devonthink with no need to go outside. Linking internally works a treat right to the paragraph.
The worst part is that having made a link, it is not visible until the mouse 'happens' to hover over it.
My thanks for putting me straight.
