Centralise an object/picture in a text document
Centralise an object/picture in a text document
I have copied an image into a document and instead of it being aligned on the left, I should like it to be centralised. A right click on the object gives me the object properties option. But in the layout tab everything is greyed out apart from the Wrap options and they don't do anything - like 5cm for left has no effect. In MS Word all you do is click on the object and click on the centralise icon - the same way as you do for text - but clicking on an object in Textmaker changes the ribbon to different one for objects/pictures. So what do you do in Textmaker for this trivial operation?
Re: Centralise an object/picture in a text document
I presume that you were in Edit mode when you pasted the image. In this case, the image is inserted as an embedded object, which means that it is treated as part of the text (a kind of oversized letter, so to speak).
If you choose Object mode before pasting, the image will be inserted as a picture frame, and all formatting options will be available.

Re: Centralise an object/picture in a text document
Sorry, but you've lost me on the first few words. What is edit mode and what is object mode? How do I know which one I'm in? All I've done is create a new document written a few words and then copied an image from the internet into the document which I then want to have centralised rather then being left aligned.
Re: Centralise an object/picture in a text document
Edit mode is the usual working mode you are in when you create a new document and write text. Object mode is a special mode to handle objects like images, text boxes, auto shapes and so on. To activate Object mode, go to View > Object mode. You will find more about it in the TextMaker help or in the TextMaker User manual in section Frames and drawings > Frames – basic functions > Object mode.
Re: Centralise an object/picture in a text document
The distinction between just inserting and image as opposed to inserting an image frame in TextMaker can be a bit confusing. However, if the only issue is placing the image in the center of the page, it doesn't need to be entered as an image frame. It will need to be an image frame if you want the text to wrap around it, but if the image is going to be free-standing between paragraphs, just change the justification to Centered before inserting the image object.
