TextMaker's strange behavior
TextMaker's strange behavior
Hi everyone, I started using TextMaker about a week ago and I like it. It lets me assign shortcuts to symbols and use other useful shortcuts that make typing fast. But I had a mishap yesterday and wasn't able to figure out what it was. Maybe I accidentally pressed some combination of keys when typing, which changed the system behavior. As I tried to type any letter, number, or even space, the typed character would replace the character to the left of the cursor instead of appearing at the end of the string already typed. For example, when being in the middle of typing "horse," with the string "hors" already there, typing the "e" would produce "hore" (the "s" replaced by "e"), instead of the expected "horse." The problem went away by itself the next day, but I would like yo know what exactly happened in case the same thing happens again.

Re: TextMaker's strange behavior
This sounds like the behavior you would experience in "Overwrite" mode.
If the overwrite behavior is happening, you will see "Ovr" in the status bar. Click that, and it will switch to regular "Ins" mode.

Re: TextMaker's strange behavior
Thanks for responding! No, it wasn't this. The overwrite mode replaces the characters to the right of the cursor, i.e. in the direction of typing, but this "mode" (if I may call it this) replaced a single character to the left with the character that I pressed. The subsequent pressing of the same character key didn't do anything either left or right. I didn't at the time check the status in the status bar, but I guess it would have been Ins. But the issue never returned since I reported it, so hopefully it won't return.

Re: TextMaker's strange behavior
Strange. I am not aware of any feature that could explain that behavior.
If the issue does come back, let us know (perhaps share a video), and we can investigate this further.
