fx function in home tab doesn't work

Post by Theatrelover72 »

I have FreeOffice 2024 and wanted to use the fx function under the home tab in PlanMaker. However, it does not appear to be working properly. When I click on the cell to the right of "total in", I am then clicking fx, SUM, dragging over the cells I want but this does not lay out the formula correctly, omitting the word SUM and omitting the brackets (see screenshot 1). When I then click "insert" the incorrect formula then shows in the function tab and then just shows the amount in the last cell highlighted (see screenshot 2). The other formulae omit the brackets too and so also don't work.
If I click on the "formula" tab at the top of the page and click on fx function there, the same issue persists. However, the autosum "SUM" option works fine. Please help!

PlanMaker will not automatically put the selected cells into the SUM formula brackets, when you already have selected =E4:E5 in the target cell.

You have to choose Method 1 or Method 2 to have the desired cells into the SUM brackets in this way =SUM(E4:E5):

Method 1. Type in the formula manually:
Type =SUM into the target cell and the first bracket. Now you can drag with the mouse the cells you want to add.
Type in the last bracket and then press Enter.

Method 2. Use the fx command:
Select the (empty) target cell where you want to use SUM
Click on fx or press F7 key
Choose the SUM function in the dialog box
In the Formula field, complete the cells you want to sum. You can type them within the brackets or easier you can drag them in the document with the mouse.
Click on Insert button

Click on the screenrecord below to see both methods.

@stascheit Thank you. These both work. It was the second method I was having a problem with but I have just realised it's because SUM needs to be double clicked on and I was doing a single click! When I double click on it, it works! Thanks again.

Fine, that's it. Double click was missing when using the fx dialog box.
