Significant Lag From Slide to Slide

In my line of work I have extremely image-heavy PowerPoint presentations, and Presentations 2018 has a hard time moving from one slide to the next when presenting. There is a good lag between when I hit the button to advance the presentation and actually see the slide advance.

I believe it has to do with adding in larger (2 MB) images into the presentation, as removing these increases responsiveness.

I can't attach an example presentation due to file size restrictions, however if you create a presentation with ~2 2 MB images per slide this significant slowdown happens.
