How to enter em spaces and en spaces?

Post by Woody44 »

Microsoft Word allows easy access to what they call "special characters" when using the Insert>Symbol process. This allows entering em spaces and en spaces, for which no keyboard shortcuts are available.

TextMaker also allows inserting em spaces and en spaces. How to do so from the ribbon menu is discussed on page 192 of the User Manual. However, I do not use the ribbon menu. Despite knowing that it should be possible to use em spaces and en spaces, I cannot figure out how to do so without having to stop what I'm doing, switch to the ribbon interface, insert the character, and then switch back to the classic menu interface.

Isn't there a way to access such special characters from the classic menu?

For some unknown reason, the "Insert character" command is missing from the classic menu. I use the "Insert character" icon in the standard toolbar for this (a square with three horizontal dots - I can‘t remember if it has been there all the time or if I put it there via Tools > Customise). It opens a menu containing en space and em space. And of course for those who prefer typing, there is always the option to define a keyboard shortcut.
